Olepangi House, 10 Guests, Timau

How do we summaries the bewitching and bewildering Olepangi House on Olepangi Farm in Timau? This is a property unlike any other in Kenya and maybe East Africa. Olepangi House is not just a nice place to get away and see some wildlife and have some downtime, it was designed and molded with a completely different ethos. At Olepangi you will experience so much more, more activities, more uniqueness, more art, more culture and extraordinary travelers popping in and out all the time. The buzz and vibe at Olepangi is always electric.

The house site on its own, away from the main lodge and offers you a separate and unique experience with the group that you come with. The house was not just built, it was lovingly thought out and designed around a Ying Yang circular garden by international architects and the owners who have poured all their love and devotion into this extraordinary house. Entering through the huge doors you look through the house over the garden, the lawn and onto the wilds of Northern Kenya. There is a huge living room and dining room with a large fire place, perfect for those chilly evenings catching up on the days events and people you met and experiences you had.

There are 5 exquisite bedrooms in the house, but not just ordinary bedrooms. All en-suite and decorated with the most amazing ornate fabrics and finishing. At Olepangi House every piece of wall hanging, and décor has a story, from the Arab traders to the Indian subcontinent, to the Imperial travellers, every piece has a story and that’s what makes Olepangi House so incredible.

The house also comes with a kitchen but is rented on a fully catered basis and the team of chefs will blow you away with what they produce (most of the fresh produce is growth onsite). Meals are set out in different parts of the farm and the house, so you move around and meet up with other people, or we can have all meals set up for you in the house if you would like, the choice is yours. Outside you have a private garden, veranda’s all over the house and rather funky outside bathroom on one side of the house. All beautifully finished and thought out.

But let’s not mess around, Olepangi has so much more to offer than just an extraordinary house, great food and staff, if that’s not enough. The owners of the farm have nurtured and built one of the most amazing properties in Kenya and the activities on the farm are amazing. The focal point of the farm must be the farm yard itself, if your keen on milking the herd of gorgeous Jersey cows, or gathering the fresh fruit, vegetables and flowers on the farm, then get up to Olepangi.

Why not take a farm tour and learn about the self-sustaining methods that the farm uses to thrive, learn about succession planting, composting tricks, drip irrigation, organic farming, bee keeping and gin production? Or just come up and meet the chickens that give you the fresh eggs you eat every morning. There is so much to do and learn and that’s even before you saddle up one of the farms many horses on a trip round the farm and into the conservancy the borders the farm.

If you’re in the area to explore, then you are in for a treat. Known as the gateway to the north, Nanyuki is ideally located for you to access the wonders of Laikipia, Shaba and Samburu. Nanyuki also offers a close base to explore the world-famous Ol Pejeta wildlife conservancy, to experience the Northern White Rhinos, chimpanzees of Sweetwaters Sanctuary, and the other abundant wildlife at one of Kenya’s foremost conservation zones.

If you’re looking for more adventure, why not head into the forests around Mount Kenya and the Aberdare National Park and get lost in the forest trails and spot rhinos and giant forest hogs, or experience some of the best fly fishing in the country on Mount Kenya’s lakes or the rivers of the Aberdares. Head down to the incredible Ngare Ndare forest and see what you can see and get swept away in the activities available and we can set up a vehicle for you to hire out of the house if you don’t want to self-drive.

Or simply load the car with a few friends, or the family, and just take the weekend for yourself, perhaps with a round of Golf at Nanyuki Club? The options are limitless, so make the time.
